I love the story of Esther! Esther is a remarkable example of divine protection and providence. The narrative unfolds in the Persian Empire, where Esther, a Jewish orphan raised by her cousin Mordecai, becomes the queen through a series of unexpected events. The most important part of her story is her lack of choice in being chosen by this King. The way that the King chose his Bride was by sleeping with her first. The power dynamic here is evident, and this is not a romance story. 

God did not abandon Esther but rather turned the situation around for the good of His people and Esther. The idea of divine shelter and protection given by God through all circumstances is one we can all relate to. This imagery is drawn from Psalm 91:4, which states, "He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge." This evocative metaphor suggests a nurturing and safeguarding embrace, much like a mother bird protecting her chicks.

Esther's journey begins when King Xerxes chooses her as queen, unaware of her Jewish identity. Haman, a high-ranking official, plots to annihilate the Jewish people. Mordecai urges Esther to intervene, revealing her true heritage, despite the risk it poses to her own life. Esther's response reflects a deep reliance on God's guidance and protection. The bravery it took to be a voice for the people when she had no voice in being chosen as concubine and Queen reveals her heart. 

In a pivotal moment, Esther approaches the king uninvited, a move that could result in her death according to Persian law. However, she finds favor in the king's eyes, and her petition to save her people is granted. This turn of events is a testament to the unseen hand of God working behind the scenes, orchestrating events in Esther's favor.

Esther's story illustrates how individuals, even in seemingly perilous circumstances, can find refuge under the protective wings of God. The narrative showcases divine intervention, strategic timing, and Esther's courage as she fulfills her role in God's larger plan for the preservation of her people. The imagery of being under God's feathers beautifully encapsulates the theme of divine protection and shelter in the midst of life's challenges. Can we be the person we never had? Esther may not have had a voice initially, but when God elevated her, she used the timing of the Lord to be a voice for the nation.
